Get Out There!
It all begins with an idea—one that asks a simple but courageous question: What would it look like to meet people where they are, across cultures, with genuine compassion? That idea was born in an intercultural communication class at Liberty University, where students were challenged not only to understand cultural differences but to respond to them with humility, empathy, and action. What started as an academic conversation soon became something far more personal and practical.
Under the guidance of Dr. Tim Chang, this idea took shape as a vision for real-world engagement. Through reflection, dialogue, and hands-on learning, it became clear that intercultural compassion is not a theory—it is a calling. With the encouragement and practical support of Compassion Church of the Nazarene in Lynchburg, the idea moved beyond the classroom and into the community, where cultural barriers are real and compassion is deeply needed.
Today, that vision lives on through IOC (Intercultural Organization of Compassion) Ministries. IOC exists to step outside comfort zones, cross cultural lines, and walk alongside individuals and families with care, dignity, and faith-rooted love. Through community events, sports ministry, and compassionate outreach, IOC invites people not just to observe the needs around them—but to get out there, build relationships, and turn compassion into action.
